Don't Log Tasmania's Magnificent Forests

Don’t roll over the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement

In 2017, the Tasmanian and Australian governments are set to roll over the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) for another 20-years.This RFA is designed to entrench the logging of native forests for decades under an exemption from national environment laws, and against escalating public opinion to the contrary.

In that process an entire generation is excluded from decision-making on Tasmania’s forests. This is undemocratic and an unacceptable prioritisation of the interests of the controversial forest industry against those of the general population. It will never be a social licence. It should not be extended.

If rolled over, the RFA will have devastating effects on superb forests and their biodiversity, on the capacity of endangered species including the Swift Parrot, Giant Freshwater Crayfish and the Tasmanian Devil to survive the imminent threat of extinction. Also clearfelling our capacity to tackle run-away climate change.
